God Will Make a Way
There’s something unsettling about being stuck. Maybe you’ve felt it before — staring down a situation with no clear exit, no answers, and no way forward. It might have been a job that drained the life out of you, a relationship that felt impossible to repair, or a season of grief where hope seemed distant. When life brings us to those crossroads, we begin to wonder, “Is there any way out of this?”
Isaiah 43 reminds us that God has always been in the business of making a way. The Lord speaks through the prophet with words that echo across centuries:
“This is what the Lord says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters…
‘Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.’”
— Isaiah 43:16, 18–19 (NIV)
These words take us back to Israel’s most defining memory: the Red Sea. The people had been cornered, the waters before them and Pharaoh’s army behind them. There was no logical solution, no visible escape — until God parted the sea. He made a way where there was no way.
But here’s what’s surprising in Isaiah 43: God tells them not to get stuck only remembering the past. Yes, He was faithful yesterday, but He is also the God of new beginnings today. His promise is not only that He did make a way, but that He will make a way — even now, even in your wilderness.
What does that mean for us?
1. Release the past.
We can’t keep moving forward if our hearts are chained to yesterday’s regrets, failures, or even successes. God says, “Forget the former things.” That doesn’t mean erasing your memories — it means not letting the past define your future.
2. Trust the promise.
God doesn’t ask us to figure out how the way will appear. He asks us to believe that He can do what seems impossible. He says, “See, I am doing a new thing!” Even when we don’t perceive it, He is working beneath the surface, preparing a way forward.
3. Look for the new thing.
God often begins His work in small, almost hidden ways — like a spring bubbling up in the desert. If we only expect Him to move in big, dramatic moments, we might miss the quiet miracle He is already unfolding.
For some, the wilderness feels like financial stress, for others it may be a broken relationship, a health struggle, or simply the weight of uncertainty. Wherever you find yourself, the truth remains: God is not intimidated by your wilderness. He is the God who brings streams in the desert, who turns wastelands into gardens.
And for us as Christians, the greatest fulfillment of Isaiah 43 comes in the words of Jesus: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). God’s ultimate way was not just a path through the Red Sea or a stream in the desert — it was the gift of His Son, who opened the way to eternal life.
So if today you feel hemmed in by life’s trials, hear this promise: God will make a way. Not always the way you expect, but always the way you need. And His way always leads to life.
Closing Thought
Maybe you don’t see the path yet, but that’s okay. God does. He is already at work in your wilderness, shaping the unseen into something new. Trust Him, lean on His promises, and remember: with God, there is always a way forward.
