The Words you speak….

The Words You Speak Are Building Something—Whether You Realize It or Not

By Doug Mithun

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” — Proverbs 18:21

I used to think words were just… words. You say something, and it disappears. Air. Noise. Forgotten. But life has a way of showing you just how wrong that is.

Words stick.

The ones spoken over you.

The ones you speak to others.

And especially the ones you speak to yourself.

There was a season in my life where the words I said—out loud and silently—were filled with frustration, bitterness, and disbelief. Not in God. In myself. I’d say things like “I’ll never change,” or “I’m too far gone.” And I believed them. Those words became the framework for how I saw the world, how I saw my future, and how I saw my worth.

But something started to shift when I realized that words are seeds. You plant them, and in time, they grow into the reality you live in.

That’s what Proverbs 18:21 is really saying. Your mouth is a tool of creation or destruction. And the crazy thing? You’re the one holding the tool every day.

God didn’t just speak to create the universe—He spoke it into being.

Jesus didn’t just say kind things—He healed with His words.

And we? We’ve been given the same gift.

Not just to communicate—but to create.

So now, I try to choose my words like I’m planting a garden.

When I wake up, I say, “God has a plan for me today.”

When I face trouble, I remind myself, “This won’t break me.”

And when I look at others, I say, “They’re not too far gone either.”

Is it easy? No. But it’s worth it.

And here’s the truth: if you want to see change in your life, start with what you’re saying. Speak life, not just about your future—but into it.

What are you speaking today?

Because what you say today is shaping what you live tomorrow.
